Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document everything I like. If you like what I like, follow me.

I LIKE a spider.

I LIKE a spider.

This is Rose.

Here’s Why:

I know, I know…hear me out.

Like most, I have succumbed to the constant entertainment offerings of TikTok. Much to my surprise, I find myself generally fascinated by the app. At first, like a lot of GenXers, I eye rolled it. But after spending some time (and now probably too much of my time), I realize what a powerful source of communication it is—even as I sit here writing blogs like I’m living in the early 2000’s. But hey, Y2K is back with the young people of today so maybe I am ok. Not to worry, my butt crack is nowhere in sight.

Ok, back to spiders. Or, at least one spider. Her name—Rose. As you scrolled through TikTok in the last few months you may have come across her story, depending on your algorithms…mine apparently like to show me things that scare me at first.

Check out @tiana_thebuglady. Her content is mainly about different bugs she has as pets, most of them are jumping spiders. Now spiders are scary enough to me, but put the word “jumping” in front of it and I want to peel my skin off.

But turns out jumping spiders are pretty darn cute. I bet most of you won’t be googling spiders after this, no matter how much you trust me…so I’ll tell you a fun thing I have learned about these creatures without pictures so you stay with me. Some jumping spiders, males specifically, are great dancers. They dance to catch a female’s attention. I’ve had men do this for me and it wasn’t half as endearing.

You can watch a male peacock jumping spider at 1:20 here breaking out in an adorable two-step. Worth the click for sure.

Rose isn’t just a spider though…she is a tiny little mirror of your own soul staring back at you. When she looks at you deeply, with her…um ….8….eyes (I know I know) you feel like she has seen many lifetimes and many worlds. She is a heart with legs. I can’t embed any of her videos unfortunately, but it is worth a click to see her in motion: Watch Rose here.

Sadly, Rose passed away a few weeks back. I guess jumping spiders only live between six months to two years. And even though she will forever live on in Tiana’s TikTok, I wanted to tell you all about her here, because there once was a spider named Rose, who touched me in a deep way, but not literally with her 8 legs, thank God. RIP Rose <3
